Ka Wa Key SS’21 Collection Finds Inspiration at Home

While most of us are stuck at home– working from home, and subsequently viewing NYFW from home– the design duo Ka Wa Key took the term quite literally. The iconic phrase “there’s no place like home” is the sentiment behind their Spring/Summer ’21 collection, finding inspiration in their international upbringings in Hong Kong, Finland, and London.

The London-based gender-fluid label by Key Chow and Jarno Leppanen found new heights with their designs, weaving sunsets and tie dye aesthetics into textiles to reimagine both nature and tradition. The softness of sustainable materials coupled with the haze of a late summer evening made for an exquisite display of casualwear.

Ka Wa Key opted for a short film digital presentation in lieu of a standard NYFW runway. The film is a collaborative project created by filmmaker Fabrizio Eramo for the brand.

Ka Wa Key x Toray

In addition to the sensually colorful collection, Ka Wa Key also designed a three look capsule collection with Japanese fabric manufacturer Toray. The Finnish wilderness inspired the three looks, emphasizing simplicity and sophistication.

Ka Wa Key are H&M Design Award Finalists and International Woolwark Prize 2018 semifinalists. Their NYFW collection was presented with the CFDA.
