Jordan Smith Headlines The Highline Ballroom

Jordan Smith returns to the stage.

Jordan Smith is an American songwriter-singer from Harlan, Kentucky. He gained fame by winning season nine of The Voice. I believe one reason why he won the competition is due to, well, his impressive voice! His vocal range is classified as a countertenor. As a male singer, he can hit high notes like a female soprano and low notes like a baritone. His vocal control, as well as his range, is something most male singers can only dream of achieving.

I had the pleasure of seeing him on stage at the Highline Ballroom in Chelsea, New York.  He started off the night by singing a cover of  “Chandelier” by Sia, which perfectly highlighted his vocal talent. Then he continued the night by covering more songs like “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera and singing songs from when he was in church choirs like “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “Amazing Grace.”

Throughout the show, Jordan Smith performed three songs from his new album, Something Beautiful. Before singing “Settle,” he told the audience he wrote this song during the final stages of The Voice. It reminded him to “stay strong till the end.”  Jordan then sat down at a piano and performed “And So It Goes.” He is a wonderful pianist. The song that stood out the most for me was “Stand in the Light.” This is his first single from the album and he performed it passionately. He mentioned this song represents a message he always wanted to share. Overall, Smith gave a solid performance. He has a fantastic voice and sang all of the songs beautifully.
