After much anticipated demand for live music again, John Mayer delivered the goods in the most beautiful way possible: a tour of his latest album Sob Rock.
On Sunday March 13th I got a chance to witness John Mayer in all of his guitar hero greatness at the iconic Forum in Los Angeles.
Entering the Forum always feels legendary. There’s something about the design that inspires nostalgia and joy. You can’t help but have all of your senses heightened when you walk into the building.
The concert started off with Yebba the opening act for the night. She got the crowd warmed up with her melodic voice and blue eyed soul. After that was intermission, a chance to use the restroom, buy some merch or just walk around for a bit.

Soon after when the clock hit 8:50pm, the perfect guitar riffs from the first 20 seconds of “Last Train Home” burst through the speakers as John walked on stage to everyone’s delight. During the 2 hour set, John and his band showcased legendary talent in front of 17,000 cheering fans. Everyone was awe when he performed some of his biggest hits like “Belief” “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” “Neon” and many other chart topping hits under his arsenal.
The whole show highlighted John’s ability to push the limits of what’s possible with a guitar and microphone. His acoustic solo during “Free Fallin’” was nothing short of a masterpiece. In addition to that, John gave his entire band a chance to shine, introducing everyone as they played a solo and expressed their individual styles.
He explored his entire catalog with classics like “Your Body Is a Wonderland” “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” “Gravity” “Who Says” and “Waiting on the World to Change”. All of this culminated in a show that will likely never be forgotten by everyone in attendance.
24 years ago John Mayer began his career and after witnessing his musical talent I must say that all that time was well spent. The 44 year old is showing no signs of slowing down. You can get tickets for his upcoming shows at johnmayer.com
