Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo Perform Special Version Of ‘The Color Purple’ [Video]

With a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy award winner and a fast rising star, you can’t go wrong.

The Color Purple has just released this music video featuring Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo performing a special version of the title song from the Tony-nominated musical’s score. This special rendition was produced by six-time Grammy winner Harvey Mason Jr. A list of notable producers, including Oprah Winfrey, are behind The Color Purple’s return to Broadway this fall in the acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle. Jennifer Hudson will play Shug Avery, Cynthia Erivo, the breakout star from the London production, will be Celie, and Orange is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks will play Sofia. It’ll be the Broadway debut for all three of these talented actresses. The production will also feature Isaiah Johnson from The Merchant of Venice, and Peter and the Starcatcher in the role of Mister. Joaquina Kalukango from Encores! Wild Party, Holler if Ya Hear Me will play Nettie, and Kyle Scatliffe from Les Misérables will take the role of Harpo.

The Color Purple will begin previews on Tuesday, November 10 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th street).  The show will officially open on Thursday, December 10.  Tickets are available at Telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200.
