Jeff Koons Puts Up ‘Seated Ballerina’ Sculpture in NYC

The artist has set up a new sculpture in Midtown.

Jeff Koons is commonly known for his spectacular and quirky balloon sculptures. The American artist’s work is contemporary and reflects popular culture. Although the sculptures look like balloons, many of them are actually cast in stainless steel that is given a mirror-like finish. He is also known for his floral sculptures that are often placed in major cities all around the world.

Koons has installed a 45-foot-tall inflated nylon sculpture called the ‘Seated Ballerina’ at Rockefeller Center. The balloon is inspired by Koons’ Antiquity Series that features a smaller version of the same ballerina made of stainless steel. The ballerina was installed last Friday, but since then she has caused a stir on Instagram. Many people are traveling to see Koons’ latest work and snap a picture for themselves. The sculpture is said to raise awareness for National Missing Children’s Month, shining a light on the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children organization. Keihl’s and Art Production Fund are sponsors for the project. Koons aims to increase awareness of the cause for the children and make the world a safer place for them. If you’d like to stop by and visit the balloon, its located at 45 Rockefeller Plaza NY, NY 10111.
