Jaywalk Rye Celebrates The Launch Of Their New Rye Whiskey

With over 13 years of planning, this new expression was worth the wait!

Last week we attended the launch party for a new and exciting rye whiskey that just hit the market, Jaywalk Rye.  This rye whiskey makes its debut after a decade of development with New York Distilling Co. and takes the finest ingredients from New York to create a delicious rye whiskey.  This event was hosted at the new location for New York Distilling Co. in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

At this event, guests were able to indulge in an exclusive tasting of this newly crafted rye and explore the distillery to learn about the process of how Jaywalk Rye is made.  And throughout the night, guests were able to drink Jaywalk Rye neat or taste the new whiskey in a craft cocktail, choosing from either a classic Manhattan cocktail or a riff on the Manhattan called the Brooklyn.  Guests also had the opportunity to be apart of the Jaywalk Rye and New York Distilling Co. story by adding their own “tag” to a painting that was done live throughout the night.  This art piece was then installed into the wall of the New York Distilling Co. venue where it will be a permanent fixture.

Jaywalk Rye is a culmination of New York Distilling Company’s 13+ year journey to craft a unique and authentic New York rye. Rooted in the cultural and gastronomic history of the spirit, Jaywalk is distilled from Horton Rye, a varietal that dates back to 17th-century New York. Grown today in partnership with the Pederson Family in Seneca Falls, this organic rye is the core component of Jaywalk’s three distinct varieties:

  • JaywalkStraight Rye is aged in 53-gallon char #3 oak barrels, bringing forward flavors of caramelized sugars and tropical fruits, and is bottled at 92 proof, making it ideal for rye-based cocktails like the Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
  • JaywalkBonded Rye showcases a blend of exclusively 7-year-old whiskey at 100 proof.
  • JaywalkHeirloom Rye is an annual offering of scrupulously selected single barrels, bottled at cask strength (114-116 proof).
