Inside Hulu’s “Eenie Meanie”: Samara Weaving and Karl Glusman Take the Wheel in New Heist Thriller

Buckle up! Hulu’s latest original film Eenie Meanie is a high-speed thrill ride that dares audiences to second-guess every turn. Directed and written by Shawn Simmons, the film stars Samara Weaving and Karl Glusman, who bring an unpredictable twist to the story.

Eenie Meanie follows Edie (Weaving), a former teenage getaway driver who’s left a life of crime. That’s until she’s roped back in by her reckless ex (Glusman), forcing her to help with a high-stakes heist to save his life. The film hooks you right from the opening flashback and never really lets up. Edie’s story is both tragic and thrilling, as her driving skills fuel some of the film’s most electrifying moments. Yet it’s her boyfriend’s choices that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is definitely a tense, nerve-wracking ride all the way through.

Simmons says that’s exactly what makes Eenie Meanie stand out in a crowded genre. “Most of the time with action thrillers and action comedies, there’s not a lot of emotional depth,” he explained. “Instead of the usual second-act hijinks, I wanted to explore a romantic dark comedy. I wanted an inside-out getaway car driver movie with all the emotional stuff up front.” For Simmons, that meant grounding the story in the kind of toxic relationship many people recognize: the couple everyone begs to break up. Drawing from his own upbringing in a tough town, Simmons wanted to capture the effects of love being tangled with poverty, addiction and mental illness. “It’s way more complicated when the person you need to get away from has been the only family you’ve ever had in your whole life,” he said.

What he’s most proud of is how the film keeps that emotional core without losing its adrenaline rush. Eenie Meanie may be packed with action but it’s also a raw, character-driven love story. That’s where Weaving and Glusman’s undeniable chemistry takes the wheel.

The couple’s tension on screen came naturally thanks to the easy chemistry between the two. Glusman praised his co-star as “open, honest and playful,” noting that working with her never felt forced. Weaving echoed the sentiment, describing Glusman as “open open book,” which made their collaboration seamless both on and off air.

The film also boasts a stacked supporting cast with Marshawn Lynch, Steve Zahn and Andy Garcia.

Eenie Meanie is now streaming on Hulu.
