Imax ‘Voyage of Time’ Premiere

Terrence Malick examines the meaning of life in his new movie “Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience” narrated by Brad Pitt that depicts the beginning of times until present day and makes us reflect back on our past.

This is a film that encompasses 14 billion years of our universe, while it has been almost 30 years in the making. Some of the questions he poses:

Where did our world and its interplay of spectacular forms come from?

What does our deep past reveal about all of us and our own lives?

How did we change, adapt and survive to become who we are today?

“What I like is a good project that’s original with substance with its own vision,” said Berenice Marlohe (Skyfall).

Voyage of Time makes us think about how we got where we are today by looking back at our origins, we realize how small we are as humans from a historical perspective. In other words, we all came from bacteria and we are interconnected as a unique organism. We evolved as beings, discovering relationships, love, affection, and modern concepts that didn’t exist in the beginning.

When we look at the cosmos, how it expands into life, our perception of reality itself changes. Seeing dinosaurs interact with each other, discovering their own environment, makes us question our future and where our species is headed.

“I don’t profess to have answers, what I loved about the experience of working on this and what we hope that encourages people to do is wonder at the beauty of nature and the events in the cosmos, and everything around us, because it is beautiful and fantastic and amazing, and to raise questions of where we come from and why, “ said Dan Glass, Visual Effects Supervisor.

The premiere of the film was at the California Science Center IMAX in downtown LA.

Notables at the premiere included: Terrence Malick, the producers of the film Nic Gonda, Sarah Green and Sophokles Tasioulis as well as Rachel McAdams, Beau Bridges and Brittany Snow.

The film opens Oct 7th in exclusive IMAX showings. Check out our the interviews from the carpet below.

About the film:

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close-and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world … and beyond. A labor of love from one of American cinema’s most acclaimed and visually exciting filmmakers, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Voyage of Time represents the filmmaker’s first foray into documentary storytelling. The film’s panorama of awe-inspiring images will take you into the heart of monumental events never witnessed — from the birth of the stars and galaxies to the explosion of diverse life-forms on planet earth, including humankind — in immersive new ways that only IMAX can deliver. This is a cosmic experience — a hymn to the glories of nature, life and scientific discovery — in which all the elements come together to form Malick’s most original film to date. Voyage of Time will be released in two unique formats: Voyage Of Time: Life’s Journey, the 90-minute experience narrated by Cate Blanchett, which takes audiences on a poetic and provocative ride full of open questions; and Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience, a 45-minute, giant-screen adventure narrated by Brad Pitt, which immerses audiences directly into the story of the universe and life itself, and which will be shown exclusively in IMAX® theatres beginning October 7.
