If you’re a fan of Y2K reality TV fashion shows such as Project Runway, you’re in for a treat with the new film IDIOTKA.
Nastasya Popov‘s IDIOTKA is a moving story about lead character Margarita, portrayed by actress Anna Baryshnikov, who is on a mission to win a six-figure cash prize on reality TV fashion show, in a desperate attempt to save her babushka from losing her West Hollywood apartment. The film was full of humor and quirkiness, all the while representing Russian immigrants on screen.

The Russian experience is close to director and writer Nastasya’s heart, because she herself is a daughter of Russian immigrants and she was inspired to represent her roots in the movie by adding in the Russian language, culture, traditions and fashion into the script. Speaking of fashion, character Margarita channels her roots by proudly donning a Russian head scarf throughout the film to pay homage to her motherland, as well as successfully mix together East and West style. The film features a moving plot that creatively showcases the search for the American dream, while celebrating where one comes from, their deep family bonds, and enjoying the journey with a refreshing sense of humor the whole way through.
