If there’s such a thing as a celebrity lighting artist, Bentley Meeker is it.
Last week, the exclusive CORE: Club in the heart of Manhattan opened its doors for a peak at Meeker’s latest work.
In a simple white room on the CORE Club’s first floor were 18 variously sized frames, showcasing an abstract sculpture constructed of wood, canvas and resin. LED lights illuminated each ethereal feature in a new way, challenging the viewer to consider the difference between their perception of the forms, and the reality of the shapes.
Two floors above the exhibition, the club’s community of tastemakers and influencers gathered to discuss the installation and to congratulate Meeker on his latest creative illuminations.
“I’m honored that CORE: is presenting my work as part of its exceptional cultural programming,” stated Meeker in a CORE: Club press release. “If members and guests can have their relationship to light advanced by this exhibition, it will have been a very rewarding experience.”
The exhibition was the latest in Meeker’s long and successful career of transforming viewers’ relationships to light through both commercial and artistic works. He has cast rays on influencers hailing from the White House to Hollywood, including Robert DeNiro, Joan Rivers, and the Clinton family. His art illuminated the Temple of Promise at Nevada’s well-known artistic event, Burning Man, and has notably been displayed in installations at the Whitney Museum.
