Hong Kong Street Food Revamped: Hop In On The Hype

For those of you who don’t know what gai dan jai [Hong Kong Egglettes] is, you most likely did not grow up in the city of Hong Kong. A spherical, egg based waffle made it to the number one bestselling Hong Kong street food since its emergence in the 1950s.

Like a waffle, the gai dan jai is poured onto a hot griddle, except the one they use are very special [see image below].

The spherical compartments ensure that each bite is crispy on the outside, fluffy and light on the inside.

This amazing street food has made an appearance in New York City, but with a twist! Make your way downtown to Eggloo, a new dessert/snack spot for you foodies. Not only do you get the amazing gai dan jai, but they managed to make it better.

With three different waffle flavors [original, matcha green tea, and chocolate], five different types of filling, three ice cream flavors, and eleven different toppings, this revamped gai dan jai now looks like this:
