A new late night show with a Latin twist.
This week HBO Latino has launched a new original production, Chumel con Chumel Torres, acquired from HBO Latin America. Chumel con Chumel Torres is a new weekly talk show hosted by Mexican comedian Jose Manuel “Chumel” Torres, the show features analysis and political humor with a touch of irony and satire. This show has been marked as the first ever show of its kind to be developed and produced by HBO Latin America for the Latin American region and the United States.
The style of the show will take after the ‘late night talk show’ fashion such as John Oliver and Jon Stewart. Week after week, the most relevant events and characters from Mexico and Latin America will be exposed through a sharp lens where anything goes.
“HBO seeks to drive Latin American talent to be able to express freely and with a voice of their own, breaking the barriers of traditional entertainment. Chumel Torres has captivated a large audience with his particular analytical style, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to HBO, where we’re sure he will reach millions more,” said Roberto Ríos, Corporate Vice-President of Original Productions, HBO Latin America. “We are excited to bring a fresh, new voice like Chumel’s to HBO Latino. It’s an opportunity we have for the first time to speak directly to the growing U.S. Latino millennial audience, looking for entertainment that directly reflects their sentiments on current events,” added Vice President of Multicultural Marketing, Jackie Gagne.
Chumel is definitely not a new face to social media in fact he is considered to be the man who changed the face of Mexican social and political debate with his YouTube show “El Pulso de la República” (The Republic’s Pulse). In just a few years he has become one of the most influential people in political satire in Mexico with a following of more that 1.5 million.
“I don’t think what I say, I say what I think, but also what people think in regards to the news and that’s what you’ll hear here. I’m excited to work with HBO (Latin America) because it has always been the benchmark for the best content in the world. HBO is the closest to a free medium, like the Internet; it trusts the show’s content above anything else,” said Chumel Torres.
“Chumel con Chumel Torres” joins HBO’s diverse original programming created and developed in Latin America. After the outstanding success of “Sr. Ávila, El Negocio”, “Dios Inc.”, “Antes de que nos olviden”, “El Hipnotizador”, “Héroes Cotidianos”, “Psi”, “Magnifica 70”, “Guerras Ajenas” and “Capadocia”, Latin America stands out as a unique market thanks to its talent—both in front and behind the camera.
“Chumel con Chumel Torres” will hit the screens on HBO Latino, HBO NOW and HBO GO simultaneously every Monday at 11:00 p.m. beginning July 25.
