Glendalough Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day With Whiskey Tasting Experience

Nothing says St. Patrick’s Day more than an Irish whiskey tasting!

Last week we attended an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration hosted by Glendalough.  The event took place in New York City at Five & Dime where Glendalough’s head distiller, Ciarán (Rowdy) Rooney led guests through an intimate guided tasting of Glendalough’s whiskey expressions.  During this tasting, Ciarán offered each guest a sample of these expressions to try neat, and walked guests through how Glendalough makes each expression and what notes they should expect to smell and taste when sampling each one.

The experience was incredibly informative and showcased Glendalough’s passion for spirit making and distilling.  And for those who were interested in knowing about the gin botanical foraging process, Glendalough’s full-time forager, Geraldine Kavanagh, was available to answer any questions guests had. The Double Barrel Irish Whiskey expression was one of our favorites having sweet butterscotch notes and being incredibly smooth.  There were lingering notes of brown sugar, honey, and a bit of cherries that made for a delightful tasting experience.

The Mizunara is also an expression for those that have a particular sweet tooth.  This whiskey combines Irish single malt and Japanese oak to create a whiskey that bursts with a biscuity malt flavor that has notes of vanilla, honey, slight caramel, and hints of chocolate. And the Pot Still is for those that like a little bite to their whiskey.

This expression has a slightly spicy feel to it that is balanced out with touches of oak and grass to it.

As the event went, guests sampled a variety of Glendalough craft cocktails that featured both Glendalough Botanical Gin and Rose Gin along with Glendalough’s Double Barrel, Post Still, and Mizunara whiskies.  And since this was an early celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, a traditional Irish Coffee was also offered as well.

And for those looking for more information about the Glendalough whiskies, you can find more information at their site here.
