Gitano Island NYC Creates its Own Tropical Paradise just Outside the City

The modern Mexican eatery and tropical beach club make for a perfect excuse to escape the Manhattan madness.

Gitano Island NYC has kicked off the summer season right with its VIP opening party on May 24th. Located on Governors Island, Gitano is less than a 10-minute ferry ride from the port at Casa Cipriani, and can also be accessed in Downtown NYC, Pier 6 Brooklyn Bridge, and Red Hook/Atlantic Basin.

Gitano is held under large party tents beautifully draped with sparkling string lights, the grounds are covered in an array of palm trees, and each room is dangled with iridescent disco balls. The space really comes alive with the help of the DJ and what I am guessing is a Mykonos beach club set. The delicious food, divine mezcal cocktails, and immaculate vibes quite literally transport you to your own personal mini vacation.

The wondrous guests crowding outside the entrance alone help set the galvanic tone of the venue. Everyone is dressed chic but eclectic, and though they appear poised, they’re unafraid to hit the dancefloor with a few strangers!

“I’m having a good time, enjoying the island breeze, and all of the energy that comes with it,” says guest Brandon Gray.

Gitano Island NYC is a must staycation this Summer, and who knows you may even question returning to the city at all!

Gitano Island NYC is open every day for brunch and beach lounging from 12pm, dinner and sunset cocktails from 4pm, and offers private event bookings.
