The Friends of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, celebrated the beginning of the music season and commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution with a performance.
All- and I’m sure I’m not the first to make this appeal- it’s time to face the music. We have gone far too long without the moments of triumph and human spiritedness. Leave it to a quartet from the world renowned Budapest Festival Orchestra to rejuvenate a weary and expressionless New York City. The passionate expression of a Mendelssohn program of four parts did wonders for the mood. Two violins, a viola, and a cello did us in- allegro vivace? All for it, baby! Spirited, substantiative, and due for an encore, the performance was irresistible- you must see!
On a serious note, we’ve got no one but the Friends of the Budapest Festival Orchestra to thank for celebrating the beginning of the music season and commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution at the Hungarian Consulate. Sure, a divine sampler can satisfy some, but the entire orchestra will be at Lincoln Center in February. It’s significant for any number of reasons, but principally, the brainchild of Iván Fischer has risen to the top 10 of the world’s orchestras, based on a fundamental appreciation for young skilled musicians.
Unequivocally charming Ambassador and General Counsel of Hungary Dr. Ferenc Kumin announced that a memorial would be erected at the intersection of 113th street and Riverside Drive on Sunday October 23rd, which is the actual anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Its up now, go check it out promptly. Guests including Janna Bullock, Sharon Bush, Miller Pierce, Antonia Gomez Gorton, andDale Noelle enjoyed Hungarian wine before the performance, and later enjoyed some Hungarian dishes and desserts, truly a pleasure! I say, what was that spread!?
