Exclusive: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Star Samira Wiley Talks Emmy Nomination & Season 4 [Video]

For The Handmaid’s Tale star Samira Wiley, Emmy recognition might be nothing new, but it’s still thrilling. In 2018 she took home the gold for her portrayal of Moira on the critically acclaimed Hulu show, and this past month she received her 3rd nomination for her work on the show.

The dystopian drama focuses on ‘Gilead,’ a totalitarian government that takes over in America, and subjects fertile women to become child-bearing slaves for infertile households. Since the show’s debut in 2017, Wiley’s character Moira has gone through the ringer. However, in season 3 viewers saw her fully reclaim her power. She took on helping Gilead’s refugees readapt to normal society, protecting a baby being used as a political pawn, and protesting right in the faces of leaders hesitant to help usher in change.

As season 4’s production awaits the safety go ahead due to COVID-19 precautions, Wiley is hopeful for what her character’s next chapter will see. In the meantime, fans can look forward to other new projects from Wiley, like her new role in HBO Max’s Equal, playing theater icon Lorraine Hansberry. The Knockturnal sat down with Wiley to discuss Equal, The Handmaid’s Tale season 4, and her recent Emmy recognition. Check out the full conversation above!
