Exclusive: ‘Grown-ish’ Cast Discusses Midseason Premiere [Video]

After leaving fans with a few burning questions, Grown-ish season 3 is back as the Cal U gang gears up for the second half of their chaotic junior year.

The rambunctious crew are growing up and stepping out into the real world as adults…kinda. The series starring Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, Luka Sabbat and Diggy Simmons is about to take some surprising turns as the young adults navigate through the good and bad of growing up.

After dropping out of college to focus on her career, Zoey [Yara Shahidi] already lands her dream job working with two celebrity clients, Joey Bada$$ and Indigo [Saweetie]. But can she handle the pressure of balancing her high demand job while also trying to maintain her personal life? While on a music video set with one the hottest stars, Zoey can’t help but to daydream about her kiss with Aaron [Trevor Jackson] as she imagines herself as Indigo with Aaron as her dream lover boy. However, Shahidi’s  real life video vixen goals aren’t what you would expect. “Video vixening, that’s cool but the way I just want to have a money phone…from like YBN Nahmir, it’s the most random thing about me,” jokes Shahidi.

As surprising as that was, Nomi [Emily Arlook] just might take the trophy for biggest shock of the season. Now that it has been revealed that Nomi is pregnant, will the dynamics of the young, wild and free group of friends be changed forever? “Nomi does feel like the frontrunner in terms of life changes,” Arlook shares. It is still up in the air if viewers will get a chance to meet the baby and find out who the father is. “There is definitely a lot of discussion around the baby daddy and there will be more to be revealed on that,” explains Arlook. It appears that Nomi’s junior year will be the most interesting however Sabbat comments, “I don’t know, Chloe and Halle got a lot going on as well.”

With Ana’s [Francia Raisa] insistence, the girls have decided to let go of their past and toxicity in their lives which might include ending relationships, getting rid of doubts or cutting off cultish religious groups in order to start focusing on their futures. Well real life imitates art as the Grown-ish cast also implements their own personal pacts. “I hope I leave all my insecurities in 2020, all of the doubt, the negative things that I heard that I let stick. I really tried hard to leave that in 2020 so I hope that it just stays there,” Raisa shares.

The Knockturnal had an exclusive interview with the entire cast of the fan favorite original series. Be sure to check it out as we discuss relationship dealbreakers, upcoming twists in the show, the cast’s off set projects and much more. Freeform is kicking off the midseason debut on Thursday, Jan 21 at 8pm EST/PST.
