The newly released movie, The Young Wife was produced and written by Tayarisha Poe. The film stars actress Kiersey Clemons playing the character Celestina. Clemons’ character is shown preparing for her wedding day with her soon-to-be husband River played by singer/songwriter Leon Bridges.
The film does an excellent job of capturing Celestina’s overwhelming feelings of the chaos and expectations of her friends and family for her new union with River. The young woman, Celestina, is shown having a hard time with the meaning of love in a world filled with uncertainty. In the visually appealing film, every spiraling panic Clemons’ character encounters is done in a way the audience can feel the heaviness of her emotions.
The film does an intimate following of Celestina for her “non-wedding” day. Tayarish Poe says she wrote the film during the pandemic causing her to produce a visually breathtaking film with an incredible message.
“It’s so important in those moments you feel like you need to isolate, it’s so important to not isolate,” Poe says. The Young Wife is a call to action to speak up in times of crisis to receive the proper help. Poe shared, “Turning outward instead of inward helps the storm kind of quiet down.”
