New episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy are set to be released October 27th. We sat down with stars Kate Mulgrew, Ella Purnell, and Brett Gray to breakdown the series.
Mulgrew, reprising her role as “Captain Janeway” some 20 years later, provides the voice of “Hologram Janeway.” She said she enjoyed reconnecting with her character and explained the art behind portraying two different versions of Kathryn Janeway. “There are many other things happening within Prodigy, you know I’m not just Hologram Janeway. There’s Vice Admiral Janeway, there’s mirror Janeway. There are many elements of Janeway being illustrated … so I get to work on nuisance and subtly.”
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy. Members aboard, Ella Purnell as “Gwyn” and Brett Gray as “Dal,” divulged some of the themes this series tackles as it approaches its second half of season 1.
“There’s so much to get into and top of that Gwyn is complex and I knew this was a show aimed at kids but the writing is just so smart, Purnell said.
“I do think it says about our world that there’s space for more kindness, there’s space more unity, there’s space for more compassion,” Gray added.
Star Trek: Prodigy is streaming on Paramount+.
