Netflix’s “Dead to Me” came to the platform with all of the recipe ingredients for a binge-worthy comedy: short episodes, cliff-hangers, twists, a range of emotions, and career-best performances. Put it all together and the final product is definitely better than Karen’s take on Mexican lasagne (with raisins).
Fresh off its celebrated Season 2, and recently renewed for Season 3, “Dead to Me” is a dark comedy, or “traumedy” as Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate called it, focused on complex relationships whether be family, friends, or otherwise. And included in the Harding family, led by Christina Applegate’s Jen Harding, is Charlie Harding, a teenager working through the recent death of his father among a slew of changes.
Charlie Harding is played by Sam McCarthy, and The Knockturnal had the chance to talk all things “Dead to Me” with the young actor. McCarthy shares his experience working with Christina Applegate, and who he goes to for acting advice. While the show certainly caters to its fellow “white wine vigilantes,” McCarthy also points out its relevance and resonance with younger fans too.
Check out our conversation above. We chatted with McCarthy a week before the season 3 renewal, so, congrats are in order!
