Exclusive: Rick Nielsen Talks Upcoming Cheap Trick Album At Sesac Pop Music Awards

Rick Nielsen the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and songwriter of the rock band Cheap Trick attended  SESAC’s 21st annual Pop Awards at the historic Cipriani 42nd Street in New York on Thursday evening.

Last year the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Kid Rock.

What brings you out today?

Rick Nielsen: I came to see all these pop stars here at SESAC, the award show, the pop show. It’s gotta be cool … It’s an honor to be here.

Do you have any upcoming projects?

Rick Nielsen: Well we have a new album. Cheap Trick has a new album, it’s our 18th or 19th studio record coming out very soon and we have a big tour coming all over the world.

That’s exciting. How do you keep the momentum going?

Rick Nielsen: We like to play. We like to play and we’ve had a few good songs and people like us, we get paid. It’s like a job without having a job.

That’s the best kind of job, right?

Rick Nielsen: Yeah, except for it takes a lot of time, but so what?

This is true. What can the fans expect from the upcoming album?

Rick Nielsen: It’s gonna be good. Good stuff. We’re All Alright, that’s the name of it.  You’re the first one to hear it.

Exclusive?

Rick Nielsen: Exclusive!
