San Fransisco-based DJ & producer Ravenscoon walks us through his new ‘BODY’ EP in this exclusive track-by-track.

Bass wizard and electronic music producer and DJ Paul Conversano, better known by his moniker, Ravenscoon, has just unveiled his ‘BODY‘ EP, the first installment of his forthcoming concept album, Periphery. This release promises not just auditory pleasure but a journey through sound and sensation. As RAVENSCOON sets out on The Periphery Tour, we can anticipate an evolution of this sonic adventure with every subsequent EP release this Fall.

Ravenscoon is no newcomer to the scene. Hailing from San Francisco and originally from Atlanta, his musical alchemy combines death metal, hip-hop, and punk rock, culminating in experimental bass music that tingles the senses. This southern prodigy’s tracks have a pulsating, dream-like quality, interwoven with psychedelic arpeggios that are both fresh and nostalgically reminiscent.

On the ‘BODY’ EP, Ravenscoon taps a series of rising and established collaborators. On “Breathe,” he introduces Seeka, a formidable talent in the world of bass music. “GO!” introduces Killa P and Al Kapone. Both renowned for their energetic vocals and unique flair, their contribution to the track adds an electrifying, memorable layer. On “Wild,” Ravenscoon taps dubstep don Sully for an exhilarating collab. Recognized for his destructive tunes and compelling writing process,  Sully elevates the track to a dancefloor essential.  Esteemed in Ravenscoon’s eyes and having influenced his teenage years, AshEL Seasunz’ involvement in “MELT” is a special one. He injects a nostalgic yet fresh vibe into the EP’s closing tune.

As ‘BODY’ takes listeners on a sensory journey, it is evident that RAVENSCOON’s exploration into the peripheries of sound and sensation is shaping up to be a groundbreaking musical odyssey. The anticipation for the forthcoming chapters of ‘Periphery’ is palpable. One thing is for certain – with RAVENSCOON at the helm, the journey promises to be nothing short of exhilarating. Take a listen below:

Ravenscoon’s Track-by-Track Breakdown:

Boundary (Intro): RAVENSCOON says, ” Close your eyes and let the sounds of Periphery slowly wash over you. A mechanical whirring gives way to my signature synthesizer sound, as you find yourself being enveloped in depths that you’ve never imagined before. Boundary lets you know that you’ve arrived at the Periphery – only a taste of what is to come on the rest of your journey.”

Breathe w/ Seeka: Breathe in. Breathe out. Seeka and I wrote this absolutely massive rolling track that belongs nowhere else except as the first drop to Periphery. Pounding drums and a massive reese bassline are the callsign of Breathe. The vocals let you know to take a deep breath before you are now diving headfirst into Periphery. We wrote this song almost 2 years ago now and have been playing it in almost every single set since. The pitch increases in drop two as the crushing blow before slowly letting you back down into the outro.

GO! ft. Killa P, Al Kapone: One of my favorite things about DJing is letting the energy get to a breaking point before letting it unwind, only to crank it up even higher directly after. GO! starts slow but takes you to the next level – one of the most energetic tracks I’ve ever written, and an ode to the 2011 drumstep sound that used to be so prevalent in bass music. Killa P’s soulful hook is complemented by Al Kapone’s catchy and exciting vocals that continue to drive the song forward until the very end. GO! reminds you to look past the nonsense and keep moving forward. Don’t let anybody get in your way.

Wild w/ Sully: WILD!!!!!! Wild is wild. Wild is a dancefloor killer – massive love to Sully for his inspiring writing process and his penchant for destructive tunes. I LOVE the kill bill-esque synths in this song and how the second and third drops get even crazier as we go through the song. I actually spent months trying to clear the vocal samples in this track, which I finally did like 2!!!! weeks before release. This is going to be a mainstay in my sets for a long long time.

MELT ft. AshEL Seasunz: Ashel has been one of my favorite rappers for over a decade now. Some of his tracks were seminal in my teens and early 20s – to be able to work with him on a song feels incredibly full circle. I wanted to write a trap-like song but with a new school and old school attitude, ending the massive sequence of BODY with a BANG. Major shouts out to Seth Drake on this one, he gave me super helpful feedback when I was writing this and created an insane sub that kept the track’s energy from ever dying. The goal of BODY was to make a major statement, to capture attention, overwhelm the senses, and leave no option but to move your body and shake your hips. MELT felt like the perfect way to end on a high note before we venture into the lush melodic love that is HEART, Part II.
