Exclusive: Noemi Gonzalez Talks Starring In Netflix’s ‘Selena: The Series’ [Video]

Selena Quintanilla has been a huge icon in pop culture for decades.

In 1997, Jennifer Lopez jump started her career by starring in Selena as the music icon. The film followed Quintanilla’s stardom and chronicled her love and family life. Now, the late singer has once again reached our screens in a new form — a Netflix series. The series and movie have the same intent, to share Selena’s incredible story, however, the Netflix show differs in that it deliberately chose to focus on Selena’s upbringing at home in Texas instead of the glitz and glamor of her fame.

The Knockturnal had the opportunity to speak to Noemi Gonzalez where she shared her experience playing Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla as well as her own personal introduction to Selena and her legacy. Suzette was the drummer in Selena y Los Dinos, a band that was formed with Selena’s siblings; including  her brother, A.B Quintanilla who was the guitarist and composer. Ultimately, Selena y Los Dinos was created with the management by their father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. Gonzales revealed what it was like getting to know the real Suzette Quintanilla, who was an Executive Producer of the series, and shared how she prepared for the role.
