Nathanya Alexander talks about teen drama, friendships, and her new character Arianna in HBO Max’s new dramedy series Generation.
HBO Max’s new original series Generation premiered and joined the oversaturated teen drama genre. The show joins juggernaut series’ like Euphoria, Gossip Girl, Riverdale, & Teen Wolf as they showcase the racy yet complex lives of modern teenagers. Featuring a talented ensemble cast, the series follows a group of high school students as they navigate friendships, love, and sexuality within their conservative community. Small-town, conservative values present a unique challenge to these teens as they embark on their own coming-of-age stories.
Nathanya Alexander joins the cast as Arianna, an extroverted, vulnerable daughter of two fathers who hides her insecurities behind foul words and problematic jokes. Alexander, who got her start as teen hacker Veronica alongside Rihanna in Warner Bros film Ocean’s 8, brings her character Arianna to life in only her second major role. After she is forced to join a Gay-Straight Alliance to address her problematic behavior, she soon develops feelings for Nathan, a closeted bisexual and the brother of Arianna’s best friend. While Arianna reaches pseudo-mean girl status sometimes, she is still a sweet, complex teenager learning to express her desires.
