There is nothing dark about rockstar and television host, Mark McGrath… except for maybe… his roots. He tells The Knockturnal‘s Kinsey Schofield that he still gets highlights and we applaud his candor. Yet somehow, McGrath’s raspy SoCal vocals add the perfect narration to VICE TV’s new docu-series, Dark Side of the ’90s.
Dark Side of the 90’s features ten episodes that explore some of the decade’s darkest moments from the paparazzi taking down a Princess to… Beanie Babies. Don’t tell me you didn’t rush out to McDonald’s for that Beanie Baby Happy Meal! McGrath, who was busy riding his wave of rock and roll success at the time, says that the docu-series has been a fun and informative experience.
The Knockturnal was given a preview of VICE TV’s Viper Room episode and we were excited to realize that Sunset’s Viper Room was a literal playground for Sugar Ray’s McGrath who met his wife at the celebrity hotspot. While the episode itself delves into the sanctuary that Hollywood poster boy Johnny Depp helped create, as well as the untimely death of River Phoenix, we ask McGrath about his own Viper Room experience… which happens to feature a marriage proposal.
