Exclusive: La La Anthony Talks Final Season of ‘Power’ [Video]

We sat down with La La Anthony for an exclusive interview about the finale season of the hit show, Power.

Anthony talked about her character’s relationship with Tommy and the special appearance that her son makes in the upcoming series.

The Knockturnal: I just want to start pretty casually. How are you feeling in this moment?

La La Anthony: I feel great, you know, I’m always grateful and sometimes in awe that I’m apart of something so amazing and iconic and also seeing how Power has grown over the seasons and how people are so excited and invested in the show and these characters. To be part of that is amazing.

The Knockturnal: Was there any specific moment when you realized the show was a hit? Did you always know from the beginning?

La La Anthony: 50 told me before there was a Power that he was thinking of this kind of show and that it was going to be the biggest show on television, and when he says things, I’ve learned to believe him. I’ve known him for 17 years now. So when he told me that, I believed him. So watching it I’m just like, oh yeah he told me about this so long ago. You can never predict, but it’s great to see what he believed in just come true like this.

The Knockturnal: When you read the finale script, when you got the script for the last time, what stood out to you about LaKeisha the most?

La La Anthony: Her growth. I love that her character kind of started somewhat in the background of Tasha and just being the loyal friend to a fault and finally smartening up and saying, this girl is not the same friend to me that I am to her so I’m not going to do this anymore. And really stepping out on her own and investing her time into her relationship with Tommy which could be good and bad. And also into her family, her son. In this season we’ll finally see her son. Everyone’s like, where’s her son? We’ll finally see [him]! He makes appearances this season. And it’s just nice to see her step into her own so to speak.

The Knockturnal: What does she want most more than anything in this season?

La La Anthony: Love! I think she wants to believe that Tommy really loves her and what they have is real and somehow they can escape all this and ride off in the sunset and it never really happens that way.

The Knockturnal: Do you have a favorite moment whether the most challenging or the most fun to shoot out of all the seasons/scenes?

La La Anthony: Most of my scenes have always been with Naturi’s character and Joe’s character and just to be able to do great work with two people you respect and admire as people and actors is always a great thing. Joseph and I have spent a lot of time together as Keisha and Tommy and he’s really forced me to grow as an actor because he’s so incredible in his work. When you’re working with him, you have no choice but to step it up and for that I’m forever grateful and hope that it takes me into whatever I do next outside of the Power world.

The Knockturnal: From your point of view, what is the number one thing that draws these fans and allows the story to resonate with them?

La La Anthony: I think it’s something that we can all relate to on a different level. Everyone knows a Keisha. Everyone knows a Tasha. Everyone knows a girl who would do anything for love. Everyone knows a girl who has been cheated on. We all can relate to these characters in different ways and that’s why people are attracted to this world. Now there’s some heightened stuff. You might not relate to someone getting killed every other day but the general core of wanting to be loved, wanting to be accepted, wanting to be the man, wanting to have the power, we all can relate to that.

The Knockturnal: My final question, what does Power mean to you?

La La Anthony: Power, I would definitely say has changed my life! It’s been such an intricate and important part of my life for six years. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. It has really made a stamp on my life and I’m just honored to have been apart of it.
