Exclusive: Keiynan Lonsdale Talks ‘Insurgent’

The Knockturnal had the opportunity to speak to Keiynan Lonsdale about his start in the industry and playing Uriah in the “Insurgent.”  The DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and Digital HD hits stores today.

How did you get your start in acting?

I got my first start in a musical when I graduated high school called “Fame” for a year in Australia. I was apart of the dance ensemble cast  but the lead guy had a major injury so I ended up taking on the character of Tyrone and the acting in that made me feel most confident and I knew I had to pursue this.

What do you have in common with your character Uriah?

We both have a fairly young and positive aura about us. He has a lot of bad jokes  as do I but I’m definitely not as bad ass as Uriah is.

What was it like working with Robert the director?

It was my first major chance to work with a director so hands on and really works with his actors a lot was really helpful for me and made me feel comfortable.  He’s just a really cool guy.

What was it like working with Shailene?

She’s incredible. She really brightens the energy in the day for everyone because she’s such a positive person , she’s also a phenomenal actress and super inspiring.

What was your favorite scene to shoot?

It would have to be my first scene when Tris and Uriah are up on the rooftop and the Dauntless  traders come and attack us just because there was so much action in the scene. We did it for like six days , it was pretty cool.

How excited are you for the Insurgent DVD to come out!?

I’m pretty excited. It’s the first time that I’ll have a film come out on DVD, then all my family can have it and see all the behind the scene stuff as well.
