Exclusive: June Squibb Talks New Apple TV+ Film ‘Palmer’ [Video]

Apple TV+ launched a must-watch drama film “Palmer,” which takes place in a small town in Louisiana and highlights a former high-school football star, Eddie Palmer (Justin Timberlake), who went from a hometown hero to a convicted felon.

Palmer is on a mission to change his life after serving several years behind bars for an attempted murder charge. Once Palmer is released from prison he moves in with his grandmother, Vivian Palmer (June Squibb), and finds himself taking care of a unique, young boy named Sam (Ryder Allen).

Academy Award nominee June Squibb sits down exclusively with “The Knockturnal” and detailed the heartfelt film.

“It’s a story of redemption. It’s a story of a young man who’s a big football player…he gets into some trouble and ends up in prison…He’s now out, he’s coming home and he doesn’t quite know what to do with himself or how to live his life here in the free world,” Squibb said.

Squibb explained her character is the “family figure” that’s left in Eddie Palmer’s life, as her grandson is introduced to this kid that lives next door and they end up forming a strong, special bond.

The Academy Award nominee mentioned her experience working with Justin Timberlake and the rest of the cast was “wonderful,” as she praised the pop music star as a “Southern gentleman.” Squibb went on to say being in the film overall was very “fun” and she enjoyed working with the other members, including the local actors.

“Palmer” is directed by Academy Award winner Fisher Stevens and features other stars including Alisha Wainwright, Dean Winters, Lance E. Nichols, and J.D. Evermore.

The drama film “Palmer” is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
