Exclusive: Jay Ellis and Deborah Ann Woll Discuss ‘Escape Room’ [Video]

Start your new year off with a chilling thriller as Escape Room takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!

Six strangers find themselves in a race with time as they try to work together and find clues to escape psychologically twisted rooms or face the unforgiving consequence, death. Escape Room starring Insecure’s Jay Ellis and Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll will have you holding your breath and on the edge of your seat from start to finish! The Knockturnal was able to get an exclusive interview with Ellis and Woll. Check it out below!

The Knockturnal: The character Zoey was tasked with doing something that scares her, what would that be for you two?

Deborah Ann Woll: So many things scare me.

Jay Ellis: I enjoy it!

Deborah Ann Woll: You enjoy being scared? I think that might be something you have in common with Jason actually because he’s a little bit of a thrill, adrenaline seeker.

Jay Ellis: Yeah I ride a motorcycle, I’ve skydived, I’ve scubaed, I’m learning to fly a plane…I actually enjoy thrills.

Deborah Ann Woll: I’m a rollercoaster person so I enjoy that kind of thrill. What actually deep down scares me is social people, human beings are really scary. So facing my fear is like, right now!

The Knockturnal: Jay if you could bring anyone from the cast of Insecure with you to survive an escape room who would it be and why?

Jay Ellis: Issa Rae, not even a question. Because she’s one of the smartest people, I don’t even know how she knows as much stuff as she knows.

Deborah Ann Woll: I don’t even know her and I would bring her.

Jay Ellis: She just knows so much stuff and also there’s always levity with her, she’s always fun and cracking jokes.

Deborah Ann Woll: And you don’t get to that point in your career where you’re creating this thing and you’re a piece of every part of it without being an extraordinary human being.

The Knockturnal: Deborah I know that you’re a huge fan of the game Dungeons and Dragons which is all about groups solving problems, it’s kind of like an escape room. So you probably already know, what do you think your role would be in a real escape room type situation?

Deborah Ann Woll: Well I’m a puzzler, I’m very good at puzzles so that’s probably what I would gravitate to, more of the Zoey. I’m a little bit quieter, I can figure something out and then I would need others to give me the courage to speak up but yeah, that would be my role.

The Knockturnal: The movie is premiering in the new year so guys, if there’s one thing that you would want to leave in 2018 what, would it be and what do you want to bring to 2019 or start?

Deborah Ann Woll: I don’t know if this is super cheesy but my whole feeling for 2019 is this idea of coming alive! So rather than being successful or ambitious or pushing that, like what actually makes me feel alive and joyful and leaning into that and allowing that to be my definition of success.

Jay Ellis: That’s super cool, I love that. That’s really cool.

Deborah Ann Woll: Thanks, I’ve been thinking a lot about it!

Jay Ellis: I feel like mine would be a celebration like just to celebrate a little bit more. I feel like sometimes we just get so tunnel vision and just get buried with the day to day and one foot in front of the other and just kind of forget moments like (breaths).

Deborah Ann Woll: Like you have a movie coming out in January, we’re going to be in a theater, we should celebrate that!

Jay Ellis: Yeah we should celebrate that, yeah.
