Exclusive: James Kapner and Chris Baker Talk Upcoming film ‘THE ESTATE’

Last week, The Knockturnal sat down with Director James Kapner and writer/lead Chris Baker to talk about their psychosexual thriller, ‘The Estate’.

The Estate isn’t your average dark comedy thriller, something that’s prevalent throughout the entirety of this love triangle psychosexual murder fiasco. Playing as almost a parody, it offers much more than you’d expect in the least expected places.

When a narcissistic son (Baker) yearning for a life of luxury, and his father’s erratic gold-digging wife decide to kill their way into their inheritance, they employ the help of an absurdly handsome, mysterious hitman, initiating a psychosexual love triangle that spirals into more than anyone bargained for.

A fantastic quality of the film is the directing style. Instead of following the square and uninspiring styles of some recent  Indie films being released, James Kapner’s directing proves very calculated and satisfying. While most indie films fall victim to its slower bits between major plot points, the pacing doesn’t allow the film to drag. Moreover, they’re complimented by impressive shots throughout.

Writer/lead Chris Baker provides us with some fantastic characters, especially his own. Every piece of dialogue in each scene is carefully calculated to bring the audience on a journey filled dark scenarios sprinkled with his own unique sense of humor.

We had a chance to sit down and talk to both James Kapner and Chris Baker to talk about the film further, covering topics that range from the film’s conception to the differences Baker encountered between writing and acting.
