Exclusive Interview with Almondmilkhunni: Debut Album ‘Enjoy the Ride’, Independent Artistry and Fanbase Community

The Knockturnal caught up with the New Jersey native to discuss everything related to their debut album, ‘Enjoy the Ride,’ their relationship with fans, and their creative processes.

Almondmilkhunni (aka Brandy Schwechler) studied political science and pre-law before pursuing her passion for music. The artists’ hyper-pop and R&B-infused music have carried a widespread impact across social media and streaming platforms. Almondmilkhunni’s honest lyricism and vulnerability have attracted a community of devoted fans who adore the singer-songwriter’s effortlessly authentic vibe.

“It’s [a] community feeling. A lot of the people listening to my music are friends with each other, and I’ve seen friendships grow from that. That’s super cool. So it does feels like we’re all experiencing it together.” The 26-year-old notes.

Before Almondmilkhunni’s emergence, Brandy grew up surrounded and immersed in music at a young age. She learned how to harmonize and train herself alongside the music of the late Aaliyah, who remains one of the rising pop artist’s massive inspirations, as R&B has significantly influenced her music taste.

In conversation, Almondmilkhunni passionately expressed being inspired by the unique soundscapes’ seventies-era French pop and paying heartfelt homage to creative British singer-songwriter FKA Twigs. FKA Twigs carries a similar sonic aesthetic to Almondmilkhunni’s with bodies of work that combine R&B and electronic pop.

“I love FKA Twigs. I love experimental music and how she intersects that with pop. She’s probably my biggest inspiration.”

The emerging songwriter recently achieved a major milestone with the release of her debut album, “Enjoy the Ride,” in August, a project that had been in the works for nearly two years. Among the album’s tracks, Almondmilkhunni highlighted a particular resonance with “COMA.” The album’s significance also marks an achievement of releasing the record as an independent artist.

Another noteworthy achievement for the artist included their first headlining show at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY. Throughout the night, Almondmilkhunni expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the chance to connect with their supporters and experience the direct impact of their music on the audience.

Throughout their first headlining show at Baby’s, Almondmilkhunni deliberately attempted to connect with the audience. One of the standout moments of the evening was when she passed a digital camera through the audience, capturing the significant milestone, which made it feel like a community celebration amongst fans, friends, and music lovers.

Brandy’s performance took the audience on a musical journey, featuring her latest tracks from the record, cherished fan favorites, and moments of vulnerability.

After the show, she took the time to meet and greet many fans, further reinforcing her commitment to her devoted supporters.

“It’s just girl music! At the end of the day, it’s girl music for girls by a girl.” She laughs, elaborating on her musical style.
