Quinceañera – an important Latino tradition where a young girl at the age of 15 is showcased to the world at the start of her womanhood.
HBO showcased the amazing celebration through a story of five young women from all over the states in a documentary directed by the ‘Queen of Latin Pop’ herself, Thalía Sodi alongside Emmy winner, Matthew O’Neill and produced by music mogul, Tommy Mottola.
“I had a quince, it was fun. It was different, it wasn’t the typical party, but I went against the tradition,” Thalia Sodi said. “I did a soap opera and it made me fall in love it–the whole tradition all over again. I had two quinceañeras, a fake and real one.”
The HBO documentary showcases five beautiful stories through the lens of 14-year-old girls not only heading to adulthood but signifying the future for generations to come.

15: A Quinceañera Story told the story of Zoey, a young transgender woman, signifying hope for the trans community. We also got to meet Rosi, a half Cuban-American, who dreamt about having her Quince in Cuba for her grandfather and to stay close to her heritage.
Rosi gave some advice to other 14-year-olds who are expecting a Quinceañera and what to expect on your transition into being a teen.
“After I turned 15, I tried to grow up too fast, I tried to become a teenager way too soon. I think slowing down and being true to yourself, and being a kid is going to be the best thing you do,” Rosi said.
The first documentary film 15: A QUINCEAÑERA STORY: ZOEY, debuts on TUESDAY, DEC. 19 (7:00-7:30 p.m. ET/PT), followed by a new film at the same time on successive nights – DEC. 20, 21 and 22 – simultaneously on HBO and HBO Latino.
