Exclusive: Elle Exxe Talks New Single ‘Catapult’ and More

Electro pop singer Elle Exxe premieres her brand new music video ‘Catapult’ at Central London’s MAC Cosmetics on November 28th.

Beginning the night with a mini showcase of 6 songs, Elle Exxe brings her formidable energy and captivating showmanship to every track. She addressed the young and diverse crowd with an uplifting message to chase your dreams before the music video played. Alcohol and dim sum were offered and a special VR experience of a recorded performance by Elle Exxe gave the audience an extra treat to remember the night by.

The Knockturnal had exclusive access to Elle Exxe after the show where she discussed her inspirations and goals for the future.

The song, Catapult, had such a high energy and bombastic nature to it. What was the creative process like for you?

Elle Exxe: The song was inspired by the realization that sometimes people love the idea of you rather than who you actually are. I remembered that a while back, someone said they would sign me and then they said things like you need to be more like Charli XCX and within the same paragraph, they would ask me to remove the XX’s from my name.

I thought to myself, “I don’t want to be a second rate Charli XCX.” I want to be my own thing and if you haven’t caught on by now, that I’ve got my own lane that I can be in, then you probably don’t know who I am to begin with. I want people who support me and you can tell when someone believes in you and what you’re doing.

Following your album, Love Fuelled Hate, that was released last year, what new musical plans do you have?

Elle Exxe: I think that a new album is a long way off. I have about fifty or sixty songs that I have written last year and so right now, I am shaping it and getting feedback from people I trust. I am planning on putting an EP out but right now, I just want to make sure that I am on the right track.

I saw that you recently performed at V festival, do you have any stories that you can share?

Elle Exxe: Well I was actually due to get married on the day of V festival. In December, my manager told me that I might be opening for P!nk. I didn’t think that I would be booked for the festival because I’m still new to the scene but when the opportunity came, V festival meant so much to me that I postponed my wedding.

On your social media, I also see you supporting a lot of different charities, what drew you to that work?

Elle Exxe: Well, as a gigging musician I have started to recognize that a lot of venues I go to don’t have accessibility. Just because someone is in a wheel chair, it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to be a pop star. And how can someone who is disabled go see a show, let alone perform at a venue that doesn’t accommodate to their needs? So that is always on my mind when I go to venues. That is not right and I want to raise awareness for that issue.

With Christmas around the corner, what are you looking forward to?

Elle Exxe: On Christmas Eve, I go back to Edinburgh to celebrate with my family. We have a tradition of going out to watch a movie, preferably a kids movie, and on Christmas day we unwrap present and eat a big meal that’s prepared by my mom, who’s an amazing cook!
