Exclusive: Comedian, Actress and Writer Robin Thede Talks ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Season 4 [Interview]

Robin Thede created and stars in A Black Women Sketch Show, which will premiere on HBO for Season 4 on April 14th.

A Black Women Sketch Show is centered around a core group of Black women who are involved in every sketch. Thede has taken it upon herself to ensure that a space is created for Black women in comedy that doesn’t limit them to a box but allows them the creative freedom to flourish. Not only has Thede hired women of color to be the focal point on camera, but every position behind the camera is held by Black women. This season Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, and Skye Townsend are returning to the series and will be joined by newcomers DaMya Gurley, Tamara Jade, and Angel Laketa Moore. There will also be a long list of guest stars, such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Colman Domingo, Jay Ellis, Omarion, Bobby Brown, Kyla Pratt, and many more.

Over the years, A Black Lady Sketch Show has gained a large amount of success and recognition. The show was nominated for 13 Emmys and won three. The Knockturnal spoke with Thede about the show and the importance of creating opportunities for women of color. She also discussed how much of an impact Whoopi Goldberg has had on her life till this day.
