Exclusive: Barry Levinson, Danny DeVito, John Leguizamo & More Talk ‘The Survivor’ [Video]

The Knockturnal was on the scene for a special screening of director Barry Levinson’s latest film “The Survivor.”

Based on the incredible true story of Harry Haft, Ben Foster stars in the title role as Haft who, after being sent to Auschwitz, survives not only the unspeakable horrors of the camp, but the gladiatorial boxing spectacle he is forced to perform with his fellow prisoners for the amusement of his captors. Unbeknownst to those who try to destroy him, Haft’s will to survive is driven by his quest to reunite with the woman he loves.

Notables in attendance included Barry Levinson (Director/Executive Producer). Ben Foster (EP/“Harry Haft”), Danny DeVito (EP/”Charley Goldman”), John Leguizamo (“Bill “Pepe” Miller”) and Dar Zuzovsky (“Leah Krichinsky”).

The screening was held at the beautiful Temple Emanu-El on the Upper East Side, which is one of the oldest and largest synagogues in the world. A post-screening panel featured the main cast and producers. Billy Magnussen joined via zoom from Europe. A reception followed at The Grill + The Pool.

An examination of one man’s journey from unspeakable horrors to freedom, forgiveness and redemption, the film debuts WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, in honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
