Exclusive: ’13 Reasons Why’ Star Alisha Boe Talks New Film ‘POMS’ [Video]

13 Reasons Why star, Alisha Boe goes from tackling high school drama to taking on a group of powerhouse women in the upcoming film, POMS.

From the studio that brought you Bad Moms comes the story of women embracing their age and reclaiming their power. The Knockturnal got to chat with Alisha Boe who plays a sassy, popular, head cheerleader that is tasked with whipping the squad into shape before their big competition. Check out below what it was like working with an iconic cast, how the blossoming star’s life has changed since 13 Reasons Why and so much more!

The Knockturnal: Did you have any nerves going into work with this star-studded cast?

Alisha Boe: Yeah, I’m nervous before anything I do so, I was nervous before this but especially because there are so many legends in this film I was like, what am I doing here, why am I here? But they were so warm and inviting and it was after a week of filming perhaps I felt like, oh no this is, I belong here.

The Knockturnal: And for this role you had to learn about cheerleading, were there any other fun or challenging things you had to learn for a role?

Alisha Boe: Um no, this is the first one actually. I’ve never had to like dance or cheerlead before or learn how to play baseball or anything. Yeah but this is the first time I actually had to learn something.

The Knockturnal: People set age goals, things they want to achieve by a certain age. So yeah, I was going to ask you…

Alisha Boe: I don’t get that, I can’t, I can’t! I know a lot of people, I don’t have friends, none of my friends but other people will be like, I want to be married and have a kid by twenty-six and I’m like girl, what? I can’t even plan six months ahead or my next week ahead I’m just kind of like one of those people, like I’m just gonna wing it.

The Knockturnal: That’s good, it’s better that way.

Alisha Boe: Okay cool. Some people say irresponsible and you need to like get your life organized but I’m like, whatever dude, its fine.

The Knockturnal: Yeah, plans never work out.

Alisha Boe: Yes, they always fall apart.

The Knockturnal: Yes, so I like your method. People always say, what would you tell your younger self? So I just wanted to know, is there something that you would like to remind your older self, your future self?

Alisha Boe: I’m sure she’s smarter than I am now so I’m just going to be like, hey, how you doing? That’s about it, I don’t know. I’m not wise enough to be able to like, I guess, don’t lose your humor. Don’t get so serious but I don’t think I’ll ever be that serious.

The Knockturnal: You received so much success after 13 Reasons Why, so I just wanted to know, what are some of the noticeable changes due to the success?

Alisha Boe: Um everything has kinda stayed the same except the number of people that follow me on the internet and that’s like easy to just kind of switch off.

The Knockturnal: Is it?

Alisha Boe: Yeah you just have to like, throw your phone away. Not like actually in the trash can but just don’t look at it because it’s really easy to get self-obsessed and social media crazed but that’s about it for sure. Or your odd like running into a fan of 13 Reasons Why in a grocery store and be like, hey what’s up, let’s take a picture.

The Knockturnal: Is that weird for you?

Alisha Boe: No, it’s not weird because I understand where they’re coming from. The people who watch that show are so connected with it like on a deep, emotional level so I could understand. I can put myself in their shoes and understand how much it means to them.

POMS in theaters May 10.
