Everyone Went Bananas At The ‘Skate Kitchen’ After-Party in NYC

She was a skater girl, she said see you later boy, her friends were good enough for her.

Skate Kitchen follows amateur skate-boarder and loner Camille (Rachelle Vinberg) as she sneaks out of her strict Long Island home ruled by her over-bearing mother (Elizabeth Rodriguez), and finds solace in Manhattan’s Lower East Side skater scene. There, young Camille is welcomed with open arms by a crew of lady-skaters that call themselves ‘Skate Kitchen’ and hail the Banana as their mascot.

The indie film premiered on Tuesday (August 7th) at the IFC Center in NYC. After the screening, the cast, crew and supporting family / friends rolled their way on over to The Standard’s Biergarten in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District for the after-party, which was equally as cool and quirky as the film itself.

Polaroid-bearing photographers roamed the grounds and waiters were easily recognizable in their literal banana-suit. Banana’s were definitely the theme of the night, with signature cocktails showcasing the fruit and plush toys floating from table to table.

Although the Banana theme definitely made a statement and added to the already playful environment, by far the dopest part of the whole event was the skatepark instillation placed smack-dab in the middle of The Biergarten. Stars from the film whipped out their boards and showed off their real-life skills throughout the entire night.

Notable attendees from the film included director Crystal Moselle, stars Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, Kabrina Adams, Jules Lorenzo and Brenn Lorenezo. Additional cast members included Jaden Smith, Tashiana Washington, Hisham Tawfiq, Judah Lang, and Alex Cooper, and producers Lizzie Nastro, Sophie Mas, Izabella Tzenkova, and Aslihan Unaldi.

VIP guests that came in support of the film included Chloe Sevigny, Natasha Lyonne (who came straight to the after-party from her first day back filming the next season of OITNB), Sasha Lane, Luka Sabbat, Cynthia Rowley, and Emily Mortimer.
Check out the trailer for the film below! The film is now playing.
