What better place to host a summer concert than the rooftop penthouse of The Standard Hotel?
Up-and-coming acts EVA and Madge performed on Friday, June 8th as part of Annie O’s latest music series, Live From the Penthouse. Taking place on the 21st floor of the Standard Hotel, the stage is set against a striking backdrop of the New York City skyline at sunset.
The Standard’s glass-encased penthouse leading out to a wrap-around balcony provided an open yet intimate performance space for artists EVA and Madge. Both performers were quick to grab the attention of their audience with their captivating and energetic stage presences.
EVA, the opening act, is a fashionable and versatile pop singer who’s toured the world performing with artists such as Solange, Blood Orange, Lykke Li, and Charli XCX to name just a few. While clearly inspired by the styles of the artists she has worked with, she brings a fresh sound and unique style to the pop scene with her new solo music. Her set at The Standard was fun, full of energy and totally danceable.
Next up, Madge made her NYC debut accompanied by Tanner K Williams who danced beside her and Christopher Bennion who played guitar. Los Angeles based Madge has written, produced, recorded, and mixed virtually all of her own music and on Friday night she played a handful of songs including her new single “Alice”. Bennion’s electric guitar set against the synth tracks grounded the pop songs while Madge and Williams danced about the stage in unison creating a truly unparalleled atmosphere in the penthouse.
