Essence is so much more than just a magazine for black women. Essence has become the number one media, technology, and commerce company for black women to date. This year Essence held their Essence Fashion House in NYC at Affirmation Arts, to continue the celebration of the first Essence Best in Black Fashion Awards. Essence Fashion House brought together black designers, stylists, influencers, and fashions lovers for an all-day fashion extravaganza.  During the day-long event, guests were apart of panel discussions, a master class, and runway shows.

On Thursday, September 5th, Essence Fashion House, sponsored by Target, came to NYFW. If you weren’t there, then you seriously missed out!  Several informative panel discussions on black entrepreneurship, inclusion in the fashion industry, and sustainability in fashion took place throughout the event. Special Guests like Anthony Hamilton, Justine Skye, and many others were in attendance. Essence also announced their new digital platform geared for the millennial girl to connect, called ‘Girls United.’ Sophia and Rechelle of ‘Girls United’ live recorded the first episode of their upcoming podcast “Magic Unfiltered” with singer and songwriter Justine Skye. The event allowed for black stylists, designers, retailers, editors, and even consumers to network in an environment dedicated to our interests.

Along with the educational panel discussions, podcast, and networking opportunities, six black designers presented runway shows of their collections.  Fe Noel, Best In Black Fashion ‘Designer of the Year’ award winner, presented her collection. Rich Mnsi, BINBFA ‘Emerging Designer of the Year’ winner also presented their collection along with  BIBFA Nominee for ‘Best Designer of the Year’, Tongoro. Salem Fessahaye and Sukeina presented their upcoming collections as well. As the Essence Fashion House came to a close, Global Beauty Director, Julee Wilson, announced that Naturally Curly is now apart of the “Essence Family” before presenting ‘Texture on the Runway.’ Stephen Seven Hudson was the mastermind behind the beautiful, texture-full hair-styles that came down Essence Fashion House runway.
