Disney+ Launches Star Wars, The Mandalorian

In a galaxy not too far away, director Jon Favreau linked with animation director Dave Filoni to create The Mandalorian, the Star Wars tv series we’ve all been waiting for!

Set in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian takes places five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter [Pedro Pascal] through his adventurous escapades beyond the authority of the New Republic. The new series will be available on Disney+, a streaming service dedicated to bringing you shows and movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more, together, for the first time.

Director Jon Favreau grew up watching the first ever Star Wars movie and he believes he learned about cinema through the lens of that film, so to be able to circle back and create the first ever Star Wars live action television series is a quite humbling experience. “The idea of telling a story over more than just a couple of hours told every few years, opens us up to this novelization of story and I return back to the roots in many ways of the Saturday afternoon cereal films that my parent’s generation grew up with; with cliffhangers, adventure and those drawing from that type of storytelling lets itself really well to what we’re tackling here,” states Favreau. Besides the infamous Star Wars holiday special, fans of the universe will finally be able to experience a Star Wars series weekly from their home as they watch and react, similar to The Game of Thrones buzz. There is the sense of, what’s going to happen this week which creates a dialogue and a rhythm for fans.

While the facial identity of the mysterious, Mandalorian bounty hunter is unknown to the creatures beyond the New Republic, viewers have the upper hand knowing the domineering hunter is none other then Pedro Pascal. “Being able to put on the armor and helmet to become The Mandalorian has been a super pinch me moment,” Pascal states. Pascal is joined by fellow badass, Gina Carano known for her role in Deadpool. “It really was one of my unforgettable moments being on set, seeing the other cast members, whether it be behind a helmet or creature,” Carano says as she describes her first day stepping onto set.

There is a real genuine enthusiasm for this series and while it is currently not available everywhere, The Walt Disney Company’s Disney+ will offer ad-free programming with a variety of original feature-length films, documentaries, live-action and animated series and short-form content in select geographic territories, including the U.S., Canada, and The Netherlands, followed shortly thereafter by Australia and New Zealand, with the expectation to be available in all major markets within the first two-years. The series will launch on November 12. For more information visit DisneyPlus.com.
