Denzel Washington Returns to Broadway in March 2018

Washington will star in the newest production of Eugene O’Neill’s ‘The Iceman Cometh.’

Directed by Tony Award-winner George C. Wolfe and produced by Scott Rudin, The Iceman Cometh is a dramatic play set in a rundown New York bar. It mainly follows the meandering conversations of its lowlife patrons, such as Theodore Hickey, an eccentric, traveling salesman and the role Washington will be playing. The drama is known as one of O’Neill’s most demanding works of theatre, with a running time of almost five hours. It originally debuted on Broadway in 1946.

This is not the acclaimed actor’s first time on the Broadway stage. He won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 2010 for his role in the play Fences. He has also starred in Broadway productions of Julius Caesar and A Raisin in the Sun. Washington, however, is known more widely for his roles in movies such as Glory, Training Day, Malcolm X, Remember the Titans, and American Gangster.

The actor can be seen onstage in The Iceman Cometh for a limited 14-week engagement at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York. The show will premiere on April 26, with previews beginning on March 22.
