Dej Loaf Releases Visual For ‘Back Up’ [Video]

Arguments are often made that mainstream hip hop artists are void of honesty and practically their entire existence is a curation of major label goons.

Dej Loaf has someone managed to hold on to a level of sincerity that is simply not present in artists that share the stage with her peers. It’s possible her attitude is a product of being an artist out of Detroit, a city who’s musicians fly together like they sit in a bee hive. Dej Loaf continues to share that sincerity on the track and video “Back Up”. There’s also something to be said about the notes of sex positivity she’s (possibly even unknowingly) promoting from talking about men in the way most rappers talk about women, as evidenced by Big Sean’s verse.

I’m very curious to see what Dej Loaf will do with a full length project, as most of her appearances on tracks have shown her adapting to the environment the song provides. This track while good is sort of shallow in terms of giving us a look into who Dej Loaf is and what her ambitions as an artist are. Her EP #AndSeeThatsTheThing wasn’t exactly a deep dive either. I have high hopes for sure, but I guess I’ll have to patiently await a more robust project.
