Dave East’s Mixtape Listening Had Me In My Feelings

Friends and fans came out to support Dave East’s newest mixtape “Hate Me Now” at Gibson Guitar this past Wednesday.

The Harlem rapper’s latest mixtape “Hate Me Now” features a plethora of talented artists including legends like Nas, Pusha T, Jadakiss, Style P and many more. East also recruited a long list of producers for the 20-track mixtape. The 26-year-old rapper has an amazing flow with subject matter spanning from the streets to his hardworking mother. East was feeling himself as he mouthed the lyrics to his tracks surrounded by his closest friends. With a bottle of Henny in hand, East shared his mixtape with fans. Of the 20 tracks, “Give it to Her” featuring Rico Love was the most upbeat and refreshing with a fast tempo. The bass on track 7, “Get Acquainted” had the pulsating aesthetic of the streets with a crazy ominous intro.

During the party East mentioned that his favorite rapper is Styles P, with all due to respect to the legends. He also shouted out Tray Pizzy as the feature he connected the most with. He felt that he and Tray Pizzy came up together, shared similar backgrounds and that surprisingly Pizzy might be even be crazier than he is. The mixtape featured  heavy trap and drill especially on tracks like “Nino” and “Everything Lit.”

East’s personal favorite track was “Momma Working,” where he discusses how his mom’s job gave him the freedom to do what he wanted growing up. As much as East enjoyed turning up, he drew his listeners’ attentions to the last two tracks which were his most personal tracks. Track 19, “Numb” tackles all the obstacles East faced and how it left him desensitized and numb. The last track “I’ll Do Anything” pushed East to isolate himself as he teared up. “I’ll Do Anything” is a sentimental track in which East discusses the lengths he’d go to, to be reunited with his late cousin. Dave East has a refreshing new sound in today’s hip hop that takes you back. He’s emotionally invested in his craft and is bound to go far.

At the album listening party it was also announced that a Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama was in the works. “Hate Me Now” will drop October 2. Peep the full tracklist below.
