There is a joy and overall happiness that is applied to our energy when we watch Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito. From “Taxi” to “Sunny In Philadelphia” his range is a split between corky and eccentric in all the best ways.
Getting the opportunity to watch Danny on the screen for years, it is an honor to now get a chance to see him on stage alongside his daughter Lucy DeVito and Ray Anthony Thomas. With limited characters that will give you unlimited laughs starting October 13, 2023.
Director Moritz von Stuelpnagel, and playwright Theresa Rebeck believes this play is for anyone who loves a good laugh. Also, for anyone who can identify with not wanting to give anything away, because in their mind, they will always say “I Need That”. It’s something that I know we can all identify with. Whether it’s a jacket that we had from our first high school soccer game, that unfortunately no longer fits. Or even your ballet shoes from your first dance recital, that you no longer wear nor dance in. All of which bring sentimental value to our hearts and give us comfort, but do not give us enough room to add new memories. Seeing playwright Theresa Rebeck story telling on how Danny’s character Sam will overcome his “I Need That”, fair to say hoarder syndrome, shall be helpful for many of us who go through this each day.
Which brings me as to why I believe we should all go see this new and humorous play. It’s a great family night, date night, or any type of night that we all can leave the theater filled with laughter. This is also Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2023-24 Broadway season kick off so lets kick it off with lots of belly laughs October 13, 2023- December 23, 2023.
