Concert Review: The Knocks Headline Terminal 5

“The last night of the #FeelGoodFeelGreat Tour is tonight in our home town. Some tickets are still available. It’s gonna be a special night,” Is what The Knocks posted on their social media accounts at about noon the day of their show in New York City

On March 25, 2017, The Knocks performed at Terminal 5 for the last stop of their tour. They filled the entire room with their presence and Electronic music. Prior to their performance, Gilligan Moss and Bipolar Sunshine came onto the stage to get people ready for the high energy of the main act.

Gilligan Moss, consisting of Evan and Ben, who made it clear to the crowd that they were also from NY took the stage first. Their set was very simple, consisting of just their beat machines. They played songs from their Ceremonial EP, which was an ensemble of feel good dance beats. Audience members were dancing along to music freely – since they still had the space to do so.

Bipolar Sunshine then came onto the stage to wow the crowd with his singing. The Manchester native interacted with the crowd, ensuring that they had a great time during his set. The setup of the stage was simple, with his mic, a lamp and minimal lights shining out onto the crowd. He performed alongside his guitarist, who had an energetic solo during that made the crowd go wild. He sang his songs “Are You Happy” and “Whole Heart” and by this time the venue was almost filled up. The set ended with his hit collab song with DJ Snake “Middle” – which he told the crowd was dedicated to his girlfriend, Alys, who just so happened to be standing right in front of me.

A few minutes after the lights dimmed and at this point Terminal 5 was packed for the final act. Cam’ron’s voice then filled the room and the crowd knew the show was about to begin. “New York City” was the opening song, which was only right because The Knocks were in their hometown. The lights on the set aligned with the beats of the music and flashed brightly in bright white, blue, green, red and purple. James Patterson then grabbed the mic and started expressing his gratitude for the crowd showing up to enjoy the night with them and stated how proud he was to be on a stage in his own city.

The set was an effortless blend of music from their 2016 project 55 and their newly released EP, Testify. They played songs such as “FEEL LOVE”, “WORSHIP”, “Collect My Love” and many others. JPatt sang along to most of the songs, displaying his chilling vocals while B-Roc played with the beats. The crowd sang along as the duo performed all their tracks in ways that allowed them to flow effortlessly into each other. Halfway through the set, Patterson told the crowd to get ready for a dance party. The crowd cheered and went wild, jumping and dancing along to the music pumping loudly out of the venue speakers. The duo started spinning and mixing their music, displaying the DJ skills that brought them together in the first place. The last stop on their #FeelGoodFeelGreat tour was a success and they delivered to the crowd perfectly, ensuring everyone at Terminal 5 was jumping along to the upbeat music and having an amazing time.
