Concept Korea Debuts Spring/Summer 2016 Collections

Concept Korea returned for its seventh season at New York Fashion Week.

The global project brings Korea’s fashion culture mainstream, sponsored by KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) and the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. For this Spring/Summer 2016, Concept Korea debuts two labels: Kaal Eisuktae and Jarret:

Kaal Eisuktae by Suk-tae Lee

Inspired by the retro eastern, the collection titled “Dust to Dust” pursues architectural avant garde through combining denims and reflectives, giving off a chic and elegant aesthetic. The looks were modern and contemporary with attention to structural detailing, while the colorway of the pieces (indigo blue, navy, beige) invoked a more casual, streetwear feel.

Jarret by Ji-youn Lee

Focused on tailoring, designer Ji-youn Lee specializes in transforming tradition pieces of Korean costume into contemporary wear. The collection creates a modern interpretation of masculinity and feminine appeal through thought provoking silhouettes. Runway looks were influenced by the woman’s “Persona” and alter ego, taking on both femininity and boldness. Cotton and silks took on an unusual color palette of cremes, pastels, and carmines that gave off a futuristic but classic look. The woman who wears these pieces are not practical and safe.

We had a chance to talk to the designers as well as the makeup team on the inspiration behind the collections: Mika Chan, director, Makeup Pro Cosmetics:

Suk-tae Lee:

I’m a very devoted Christian and I first got the inspiration about the collection when I was thinking about nature and fertility of humans, which is a theme that appears in the book of Daniel (bible), and this collection is inspired specifically by chapter 2, “A Dream of King”.

Mika Chan:

Today, we’re aiming for more natural make-up, it’s very glossy on the face. The girl is really effortless and can carry her own, and that’s the whole theme throughout.
