On The Scene: The Collective x Designow Runway Show

On Sunday, April 2, 2017, Designow hosted a runway event in Chelsea for 28 fashion design students to have the opportunity to showcase their work to an audience and a panelist of celebrity judges.

From seeing a lot of clear vinyl fabric to fishnet face masks, there were a lot of different talents and creativity that came out of Designow’s runway event.

There were students from all over the three major fashion design school’s in New York such as Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design.

The judges ranged from all different aspects in the fashion industry. Michael Costello, featured on Project Runway and celebrity stylist, Sophie Elgort, fashion photographer, Ruthie Davis, celebrity footwear designer and CFDA member, Naomi Rougeau, Elle magazine fashion news editor and Irina Shabayeva, designer and Project Runway winner.

As each student’s collection was shown back to back,  at the end the judges picked who they felt was the best designer of the night. Junghan Lew, junior at FIT, was the winner of the event as he won $1,000 in cash, a chance to have his looks featured in a collaborated fashion and arts magazine, along with having his top look from the night manufactured and sold on Designow.com.

Lew’s collection was inspired by his Korean culture with a lot of details shown on his pieces. “I can’t believe I’m the winner,” Lew said.

Now that he has this amazing opportunity under his belt, he just wants to “sleep and relax.” Many of these student designers put so much time and energy into their collections. Designow isn’t letting everyone go home quite yet, since they are allowing for each designer to host a pop-up gallery three weeks from now with their looks and the most fan favorite gets $2,000 in cash.

Here are some of the looks of the night…
