Chaz French Releases ‘True Colors’

Motown/Capitol records artist Chaz French drops 17-track album True Colors.

DC’s own Chaz French has been grinding for a minute and is a bonafide staple in DC’s rap scene. His latest project tackles a variety of subjects from racism to fatherhood to incarceration. At Chaz’s album listening he discussed how his upbringing heavily influenced this album and how he turned his negative feelings towards his incarcerated/absentee father into positive energy by channeling it into his music.

True Colors includes features by Curren$y, Casey Veggies, BJ The Chicago Kid and Shy Glizzy. With a HotNewHipHop rating of 96%, True Colors is definitely a fan favorite. Although many fans’ introduction to True Colors was through the Curren$y assisted single “Invite Only,” “Way Out” was by far the standout single with a dope music video and over 1.5 million Spotify streams.

In “Way Out” Chaz describes the barriers minorities face and how they feel shackled to societal confines desperately looking for a “way out.” He also discusses how far he’s come when he raps, “Nobu, Malibu, we ain’t wearin’ no chains, we was broke last year, now we wearin’ the change.”

“Situation’s” accumulated the second highest streaming numbers from the album and demonstrates Chaz’s versatility as an artist. While “Way Out”is very rap centric and both tracks have melodic hooks, “Situation” is more sentimental and shows Chaz’s singing abilities to the forefront.
