Chairman’s Reserve Hosts Intimate Rum Blending Class Celebrating The Chairman’s Reserve Legacy Blend

This blend is like no other

Last week Chairman’s Reserve Rum hosted an intimate event at the Astor Center in Manhattan to celebrate the Chairman’s Reserve Legacy Blend.  At the event, the Chairman’s Reserve team wanted guests to sample the different Chairman’s Reserve expressions available and then eventually create their own signature blend.  And leading the rum blending class was Master Blender Deny Duplessis who comes all the way from Saint Lucia.  While leading the class, Deny gave an in-depth lesson on topics such as the history of Chairman’s Reserve, the ingredients used to make Chairman’s Reserve, and details on the intricate distilling and blending processes done to make this rum.  Deny also shared that one of the cornerstone principles of Chairman’s Reserve was to create a delicious and high end rum while still making the price point affordable so that anyone could try it.  This is part of the reason why Chairman’s Reserve Rum has become a staple ingredient in cocktails served around the country.

And after sharing details about the history of Chairman’s Reserve, Deny led an immersive tasting where guests were able to try the different expressions of Chairman’s Reserve used to make the Legacy Blend and discuss some of the notes they were tasting after each sip.  The expressions guests sampled varied greatly, from the type of still it was (column vs pot), the years aged, and even to the raw material used (molasses vs sugar cane).  What we found interesting was that even though each expression had simple nuances like the years aged, every expression was so different and held very distinct notes. When tasting the Legacy Blend, you get a beautiful richness that centers itself around its vanilla and candied ginger notes.  The Legacy Blend is creamy on the palate and has a light and airy sensation to it.  Our favorite part of this blend was the finish where it had an intensity at first that softened up and lingers on the palate.

Once guests were able to sample all expressions, Deny led the group in blending all the expressions so that we could recreate the famous and delicious Chairman’s Reserve Legacy Blend. Once blended, guests had the chance to compare their own signature blend with the Legacy blend and see how close they came to recreating the taste.

At the end of this event, guests were able to take home their rum blend creation for their own enjoyment.
