Brooklyn is known for creating legends, but it is often a lifetime wait when a new DNA enters the mainstream platform.
O’Keefe being from Brooklyn is a new young & eclectic rapper that’s been making music for some time but has started receiving local attention last year. With the release of his latest video My Dream Girl Is Different, O’Keefe kicked off 2020 on the right track. The cinematic visual features, love, fun, & excitement, coupled with O’Keefe’s rap persona certainly require further research.
Different is the key as his style tends t0 shear at the edges. Is it trap or is it pop with trap drums? his look is a mix of relaxed casual and iconic subculture as it oddly matches the audio aesthetic. Perhaps in 2020 categorization itself is out of date and certainly, the Brooklyn native makes no attempts at even trying. I think that’s just great. Who needs to pigeon-hole art let it flow as long as it’s this polished. Artists from New York are continuously re-working the conceptual limits of expression and in that tradition, this young man fits right in. He’s got an interesting face too, who knows what mix of ethnicities it belongs to.
O’Keefe’s style and delivery is something to hear, as this young rapper is set to make a name for himself. We are anxious to see what the remainder of the year has in store for him as he’s got enough going on for him as he’s already past 70K on IG and has enough momentum to put together a powerful run. From what we know historically, appealing to a female audience is key to certain artists blowing up and in that regard, highlighting the type of girl he did in this video is certainly a great start.
